Custom Slot Cars and Tracks

Here is an 18 wheeler semi truck that
I built. Both rear axles are powered
using a triple gear drive. This thing
did not drive well since the rear axles
kept wanting to ramp up due to too much
grip.

If you'd like to get started with

this slot car set that includes enough

The frame is made from a recycled VCR. The
motor is just a spare 3V motor that I picked
up. All of the tires are home made ones using
rubber foam pads. A set of new tires for this
truck would of costed $30 - $40. The white
tires are some denser type foam rollers that
I put on to allow the tires to slip a little
to cut down on the hoppy-ness.
|
I took all of my tracks and
tried to lay them out as a king
track. There was almost enough parts.
|
|
|
I found that circuit board spacers can
also be used as axle spacers for the 1/24
scale slot cars running 1/32 axles. These
will fit on a 1/8 think axle too if you
bend them out a bit.
|
One of my old T-Jet cars that I bought at
an auction. The track came with three cars,
the #2 car is the one that I kept and that
I race.
|
|
|
This white with an orange strip t-jet car was
very nice. This is one that I cleaned up and
sold.
|
When I started racing this car the magnets where
so weak that the lap counter wouldn't even
trigger when I passed over it!

This white with an orange strip t-jet car was
very nice. This is one that I cleaned up and
sold.
|
This basic family car looked brand new once we
cleaned off 15 yrs of dust and oiled the motor.
|
|
|
This one sold for a good price.
|
Got the groceries, time to head home..
|
|
|
These cars where sitting for so long that even
the copper pick-ups where corroded and needed
lot of cleaning just to get them running again.
|
I liked this car a lot too. But I chose the #2
car instead since this one was kind of skinny
for it's scale.

I had fun building this truck. Found a bunch
of broken truck models at a toy fair so I used
these to build a Slot Truck! Even the motor that
I found is an antiuqe slot car motor.
|
|
|
It looks ready to haul some track braid! Well,
except for the missing motor! This truck makes
lots of noise when driving down the track too.
|
This is what's called a "Wing Car" the entire car
is a down force wing. I bought this one and fixed
it up then resold it.
|
|
|
As you can see, it is just a wing body and a motor,
even the front tires are just decorative. The front
tires never touch the track. The entire frame is made
from piano wire. I think car came with a deathstar motor.

This is a shot of the brushes inside of a Falcon
motor. You can see that there is a cure to the end
of the brush but that cure is 90deg rotated compared
to the commutator. I saw this as being built wrong,
but the guys at the shop said that rotated brushes
makes it break in faster? I'm still out for debate
on this.

Here is another car that I fixed up from old
parts. They had a bin at the local shop with old
used cars, frames, and bodies. Great for me since
I really love building the cars.
|
This car has a wing car frame but a retro body.

Here is an old picture of my slot car
collection. Some nice cars in there.
|
You can see my #2 T Jet car, although,
slightly modified from stock :)

Here's a nice old track Andy picked up at a auction. The
track it self looks to be 20 years old. We had to scrap rat
crap off of the track and out of the groves. The track was
stored for toooo long. The cars were in better shape. I fond
them in a box, with the track.
|
|
|
We got all the cars to run and they run really great
too, but since they are old and brittle and probably
worth a lot, they are not used. The cars sit in a glass
case up stairs in my room with the door locked. Andy
will try to have pics of them too, soon, no really.
Up date, I have sold three of the cars but kept one for
racing since the guys race the older T-Jets.
|
Some shots of the table and legs that I made for the track.

Another view of the slot car table.
|
This is all that there is to the track, just some track
screwed down to a sheet of 4 x 8 plywood.

My friend Helping to clean the track.
